Worked example
The method
The browser decodes the image, redraws it to a canvas and creates the output without sending the file to a server.
Images wider than the selected maximum are scaled down proportionally; smaller images keep their dimensions.
JPEG inputs remain JPEG. PNG inputs become WebP, which often preserves transparency at a smaller size.
